An early explorer and adopter of Natural Horsemanship, author and trainer. His books include: Sadly Ray Hunt has passed away but his mastery of communicating horsemanship to humans and horses lives on. Many trainers today including Dr Robert Miller, Parelli and Roberts cite Hunt as instrumental for them in their own horsemanship evolution, 31 August 1929 – 12 March 2009. Hunt was a cowboy with a mission. One of the country's top horsemen, Hunt was a familiar American hero with a surprising slant on what horsemanship is all about. With unorthodox methods, he emphasizes cooperation and respect over coercion. Hunt not only out-cowboys the cowboys, but also persuades others that getting along with a horse means working on ourselves.

Click here for the text and illustrations of John Solomon Rarey's book, The Complete Horse Tamer," in which he details his famous method. This edition, an inexpensive reprint of his book in cardboard cover, was probably published in the 1870's after his death, though it carries no date. He wrote the original manuscript in 1862, but I have not been able to locate an earlier edition. In this edition the first half of the book is Rarey's writing, and the second half, "The Complete Farrier, or Horse Doctor," is written by John C. Knowlson. Only Rarey's half is presented here.
